What is the Water/Wastewater?

Our newly formed exchange is comprised of a community of academic, public, and private entities, and associations. This exchange aims to facilitate the cross sector sharing of ideas, all working towards a collaborative effort to improve the security, resiliency, and business continuity of the water/wastewater critical infrastructure sector.

Goals of Exchange

Promote Collaboration Between Stakeholders

Collaboration establishes a foundation of trust and understanding of the needs of the sector. Strong relationships between stakeholders will lead to a more secure and resilient sector.

Identify Gaps and Find Solutions

Working together to identify gaps affecting the sector. A resilient water sector will depend on finding solutions to problems together. Workforce development, research, collaborative events, and trainings are ways in which we can come together to solve the shared issues of the sector.

Communication and Support

Promote knowledge sharing among stakeholders to support and ensure a secure sector for the future.

Educational Courses

Incident Command Systems for Water Operators

Students will study the structure of the Incident Command System, the reason for its use, and how it applies to them in emergency situations and day-to-day activities. Students will understand and appreciate the importance of being prepared and ready to assist and collaborate with external agencies. Students will also examine the interconnectedness of ICS, risks, vulnerabilities, and their responsibility during day-to-day operations, and inevitably during incidents. Students will participate in the course via knowledge checks throughout the course and complete a final exam, which will test the student's ability to understand the relationship between ICS and them.

The Course Has Been Approved by TCEQ as a Standalone Resiliency Training Course, fulfilling 2 credit hours in the following operator license areas:

  • Water Renewal Operator License and Wastewater Renewal Operator License
